I have shown my commitment to our Auxiliary Firefighter members over many years. I initiated the enrolment of Auxiliary Firefighters into the UFU and fought strongly against moves by the employer and other organisations to prevent membership of our Auxiliary brothers and sisters.
I provided a lengthy affidavit into evidence before the Industrial Relations Commission to ensure the UFU could continue to represent all Urban firefighters and I have consistently supported our Auxiliary Firefighter members, including authorising actions in the QIRC for unfair dismissal when needed.
I continue to stand by my record. And I continue to hold the view that all paid firefighters should have their working conditions covered by an industrial instrument. It is no longer good enough that any employee of the QFRS should work under wage rates and conditions solely determined by the Commissioner.
During the time I was Secretary, I ensured the Union became more inclusive towards Auxiliary Firefighters.
